Looking at the picture in the post below makes me wince. The Pixies and The Fall tapes that Mike French gave me were excellent. Will I ever again get to hear the Hula Hoop album “My Sweet Amputee”? There were two or three songs on that which I loved. The Lou Reed tapes given to me by Al. The misc. rockin’ collection from George. Even the puffy but thoroughly enjoyable Big Dipper tapes. It was all so sweet. How could I have dumped it in the trash?
Hey! I'm in Cincinnati now, otherwise I'd run over to your trash heap right this minute so's to fish out those old tapes of yours!
ReplyDeleteCassette tapes are still rather a new-fangled medium to me, and I like to fantasize that someday I will listen to their sweet, hissy tones again.
(Of course, I still haven't hooked up my stereo system since moving here in August, so listening to cassettes and records remains a sweet, hissy fantasy, but one so much warmer than my tinny, mechanical MP3 fantasies.)
Did you ever hear of the Tape-beatles? They were, among other things, analog(ue) pranksters who used to call around to radio stations in the 90's and ask to hear music played on tapes rather than on CDs. No one complied.
Hey, you may even have some Tape-beatles tapes there in Jill's room! Let me know if you do!
