There's just two songs in me, and I just wrote the third

Why am I so tired? It's because of the songs I must make up each night. I sing to my daughters when I put them in bed. They request the music. It used to be easy: Mary Had a Little Lamb was in tight rotation, but there were frequent requests for Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, that sort of thing.

Lately, however, they've been asking for number songs. "I want a song about three," or "I want songs about zero and ten."  And now it's getting even harder, as exemplified by last night's request: "Umm…I want a song about… one-hundred seventy-two one-hundred zero."

They're wearing me out.

  1. Sing 99 bottle of beer on the wall. That covers a lot of numbers!

  2. Those girls are getting more educated, that's what's going on.

  3. One of my favorite jokes is about numbers.

"What did the 0 say to the 8?

    Nice belt."

  4. I created an instant classic refrain for a country song during the 90 mile drive from Happy, TX to Lubbock. Feel free to fill in your own verses and sing that.
    "It's two hours to Amarillo
    And 5 to Santa Fe
But I've been 90 miles from Happy
    Since you ran away"
Sing it slow and mournful. The girls will love it.

  5. Mark,

Are you familiar with TMBG's ABC and 123 cds/podcasts?

I'm assuming you are, but if your ever looking for a song about 7, 8, 13, or about LMNO or whatever, you must, must, MUST familiarize yourself with the oevre, post-haste!

  6. Hey, I remembered a verse!
"I thought I'd cry when you were gone/ my eyes would be full of tears/ but 90 miles from Happy/ is the closest I've been in years"

Just 4 more verses and I get a Grammy.
